Instructions to authors

INCASCIENCES is a biannual scientific publication journal, aimed at disseminating scientific knowledge from the Andes and the South American region in general, with the purpose of providing quality information to the entire national and international scientific community from the perspective of Earth Sciences. To achieve this, scientific articles will be constructed according to established international standards under the principles of peer review rigor necessary for approval, as determined by the editorial board. This scientific journal project will have an online publication system, with high-quality illustrations, and its content will be open access and free as a policy.

The comprehensive handling of manuscripts will be carried out electronically, which will simplify their management and tracking, both by the Editorial Committee and by the authors.

INCASCIENCES has implemented the Open Journal Systems (OJS) manuscript management system, which is the most advanced software for managing open access publications. Therefore, all manuscript processing, from submission to final online publication, will be done through the journal's OJS platform via the following link: https://revistas.ingemmet.gob.pe/. Additionally, if you encounter any inconvenience on the platform while managing your manuscript, you can contact us at the journal's email account incasciences@ingemmet.gob.pe.

Types of Articles

We accept primarily Spanish or English language submissions.

Research Papers

Research papers that meet the objectives and scope of INCASCIENCES will be accepted. These articles must have a maximum length of 18 pages and address specific cases in any area of geosciences. It is essential that the submitted works are original and have not been previously published. The studies must demonstrate substantial theoretical significance and broad systemic relevance, providing new perspectives, data, or methods that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their field.

Review Papers

These articles provide a novel review and evaluation of a significant problem or region in various disciplines of geosciences and should be of interest to a wide audience. A review article should provide a balanced, integrated, and critical summary of previous work, preferably with support from new findings. Illustrations should integrate existing and new data and not duplicate previously published work. The length should not normally exceed 20 pages. Authors are welcome to consult with one of the editors before preparing a Review article. Editors may also directly contact authors with a review article for publication in the journal. It is expected that invited articles be of particularly high quality and contribute to enhancing the prestige of INCASCIENCES.

Short Communications

Short communications are primarily intended to be compact versions of full articles, reporting on new and original high-quality research with new data that meets the criteria of being of broad interest, significant, and novel. Other publications of general interest related to geosciences and addressing a very specific topic will also be considered. Short communications should not exceed 2000 words and should not contain more than 3 figures and/or tables.

Author Checklist

The designated corresponding author is responsible for the manuscript throughout the submission, peer review, and production process. All communication from submission to publication will be with the corresponding author. They must have:

Email address ORCID code

Files required for upload:

Manuscript Keywords All figures with numbering and captions All tables with titles and descriptions Check if all figures and tables are mentioned in the text

Manuscript Format and Structure

The text can be presented in Word (.doc, .docx) or similar format. Texts should be written in Times New Roman font, size 12, on A4 paper (297 x 210 mm), with one and a half line spacing, no blank lines between paragraphs and subheadings, left-justified, wide margins (2.5 cm), and continuous line numbering. Manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively in the bottom right corner, starting from the first page.

Figure captions should follow the bibliographic references. Words in languages other than the text language, specific and generic names should be in italics (et al., sensu, non, ad hoc, etc.). Appendices and supplementary material will be included as separate files from the main text and in the same format as the main text.

Authors are requested to carefully read the publication guidelines as manuscripts not meeting them will be returned without review.

Text Organization

Manuscripts should follow this general organization:

Title, authors' names and affiliations, abstract, keywords, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments, references, appendices, and figure explanations.

The size and format of each section should be as follows:

First Page

Title: Written in upper and lower case, bold, left-justified. It should be short, clear, and informative.

Authors: Include the names and surnames of the authors (names in upper and lower case, surnames in uppercase), without bold.

ORCID: Include the ORCID code of each author.

Affiliation: Authors' affiliations (including email address).

Corresponding Author's Name: If the manuscript is authored by multiple authors, specify to whom correspondence should be addressed, indicating email (without repeating affiliation).

Second Page

Abstract in the original language of the manuscript: No title, should not exceed 350 words. Bibliographic references should not be included.

Abstract: Should be preceded by the title of the work in bold. It should also be approximately 350 words.

1st order subheadings: bold, size 12.

2nd order subheadings: size 12, no bold.

3rd order subheadings: size 11.

4th order subheading: size 11 and italic.

It is suggested to have the following organization:

Introduction

Briefly state the objectives of the work, as well as background information, avoiding an extensive literature review or a summary of other results.

Methodology

The work should provide sufficient detail to allow its proper development. Previously published methodology should be summarized and referenced appropriately.

Results

Results should be clear and concise, not repeating them in figures and tables, and indicating the direct implications of the results.

Discussions

Explore the significance of the research results described here, trying not to repeat them. Speculations may be included here, which may not necessarily appear in the conclusions.

Conclusions

The main conclusion of the work can be presented in a single paragraph, separate from minor conclusions.

Acknowledgments

Institutions that funded the research, as well as anyone who assisted in the preparation of the research and manuscript, should be acknowledged. Also, if there were additional funds from other institutions.

References

In-text references should follow current APA standards (https://normas-apa.org/).

Illustrations

All figures should be submitted as separate files.

Figures should be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they are cited in the text, indicated as "Figure" and the corresponding number in parentheses (e.g., Figure 2).

Figures should be presented in digital format, such as PNG, JPG, TIFF, or PDF (with a resolution of no less than 300 dpi), with a box size of 16 x 24 cm for a full-page or 8 x 24 cm for a half-column.

All images should have a graphical scale or specify magnifications in the references. Numbers, arrows, graphical scales, or any other indications on the illustrations should be of the same size.

Lines used should preferably not be thinner than 1 pt. Avoid as much as possible dot patterns that may produce blurry figures.

Text inside figures should preferably be unified using ARIAL font, not smaller than 8 pt. In the case of grouping several photographs in one figure, they should have similar tones and contrasts, as well as maintain a certain balance in their layout.

In the case of square photographs, the edges should be parallel to the edges of the image.

All abbreviations and acronyms should be described in the captions of tables, figures, and images.

Tables

Tables should be submitted as text, not as figures.

The font format for tables should be Arial (not less than 8 pt).

The location of tables should be clearly indicated in the manuscript and numbered according to their description in the text.

Tables should not exceed one page; otherwise, they should be considered supplementary material.

Submission

Manuscript submissions for publication in INCASCIENCES are made by sending the manuscript (text, references, figure captions, figures, tables, and highlights) as separate files to the email address: incasciences@ingemmet.gob.pe. After peer review, articles will be returned to the authors for revisions. Subsequently, they must be resubmitted within four months from the date of submission. If this limit is exceeded, they will be treated as new articles and may be published in subsequent issues of the journal.

Upon acceptance of your manuscript after respective reviews and editorial decision, the typesetter will contact you to have your opinion and acceptance on the best style of figures and tables to present, through "proofs."
